Eye candy

Before you get all excited...

Saturday, July 12, 2003 | 07:14 AM | by
I was feeling a bit experimental last night. Now, this isn't a permanant change... this is just something I've been wanting to try for a while now. It doesn't mean it will stay this way.

However, your feedback is always welcome, so if you love this new style, and would like to see the strip done this way from now on, let me know. And if you hate it, and never want me to touch this style again, let me know. Your opinion is invaluable to me, and althought the final decision remains mine, I'd like to know your thoughts.

Also, this is the last strip by me until after ConnectiCon. Instead, you are at the beginning of a week long stretch of great guest comics, starting tomorrow. That means that every day, for the next seven days, you will be getting a brand new strip. So be sure to check in.

Update, Update, Update

First of all, I'm sure you noticed that the site was down for a good portion of the day. We just recently moved to a newer, faster server, and most people have been noticing a huge increase in performance.

Unfortunately, we forgot to turn off web-logging on the new server, and with the amount of traffic Ctrl+Alt+Del generates, the size of the web log shut down the server. It shouldn't happen again.

Concerning the new style... I got a ridiculous amount of feedback on it. I came home to 191 new messages in my inbox. I read through every single comment, and the general consensus is that the new style is cool, but the original style is better.

I'm going to save the new style for special projects, and Ctrl+Alt+Del will go back to normal once I get back from ConnectiCon. It was just an experiment I had wanted to try, and I got a lot of great feedback on it. I'll be going back to black outlines for the characters.

Adios, suckers!

Well, today officially marks the first day of my "vacation". And boy do I need it. As of today, I am gone, for all intensive purposes, right through the end of ConnectiCon. I'll be around somewhat, to post the guest comics, and make the news posts, but I most likely will not be answering emails or messages, unless it is important.

This also means that we kick off the guest week today. For the next seven or eight days, you will be treated to different versions of Ctrl+Alt+Del as seen by various comic artists around the web.

We're going to start with a small web comic called Squaresville. Read the guest comic, and if you like it, head over to their site for more.

And then come back and do the same thing tomorrow. See how that works? Simple.

Instant Classic

Today's guest comic comes to you courtesy of Brian Carroll, the talented writer/artist behind Instant Classic. Instant Classic is Brian's second comic, you may have come across his first one, BriWorld.

Anyway, go check out his comic, and make sure to swing by tomorrow for more guest comic goodness.

Today's guest strip comes to us from Phancy-Pants, a comic strip with a very unique and cool style. Head on over and check out the rest of their strips.

Also, I took a break from work last night and went to see Pirates of the Carribean. The bottom line is that I thought it was great. It was an all around fun movie. Looking back, it's totally obvious to me that even though there were some good actors in the film, the movie would have been nothing without Johnny Depp.

Depp has always been one of my favorite actors, and has proven himself time and time again in unique and creative roles, and Pirates is no different. His character, Captain Jack Sparrow, is easily the highlight of the movie.

Some of the humor definitely had a Disney feel to it, but I didn't have a problem with it. Sometimes you just need a break from all the graphic violence, and serious drama, and you just need to see a movie that's good, innocent fun.

I recommend it to everyone.

ConnectiCon is three days away. I'm excited, and also working overtime to make sure I'm ready. Hopefully I'll see some of you there... it looks like it's going to be a blast.

Now's your chance

If you're going to be attending ConnectiCon, and there's something particular you'd be interested in buying from me (a sketch of something, a certain comic strip you'd like to buy signed) now will be the time to let me know. I have to leave on Thursday afternoon to head down to Connecticut, because setup starts Thursday night, and the con starts early Friday morning.

I've got a day and a half left to cram in special requests from the people I'll be meeting there.

Theater Hopper

Guest strip today by Tom Brazelton of Theater Hopper.

Theater Hopper has been around for quite a while, and was actually one of Ctrl+Alt+Del's first affiliates. Tom runs a great movie-based strip over there, so if you've never seen it, now's your chance.

Working my tail off to be ready for ConnectiCon. I'm really excited.. I leave tomorrow. I'll try and take pictures and what-not to show you when I get back.

Oooo.... Spiffy!

We have a new domain name in effect. From now on www.cad-comic.com will forward you to www.ctrlaltdel-online.com.

The main domain name is a real bitch to try and give out in conversation (trust me), and having a simpler domain name should help you all spread the word.

Don't worry, you don't have to change your bookmarks or anything. This is just an extra.

Monkey Business

Thursday, July 17, 2003 | 06:48 AM | by
Go check out Monkey Business, because they created today's guest strip.

I'm leaving for ConnectiCon shortly after I finish writing this news post, and I won't be back until late Sunday night.

All email will remain unanswered until Monday morning at the earliest.

So if you're in Connecticut, head on over to the University of Hartford this weekend and say hi. I'll be selling posters, prints, original artwork, and probably be doing on-the-spot commissions too.

Hello from ConnectiCon

Hey everyone. I'm making this news post from the business office of the hotel I'm staying in while I'm here in Connecticut. I just want to make a couple of announcements regarding this weekend's guest strips.

First of all, today's comic was done by Same Logan of Sam and Fuzzy. I feel bad for getting this news link up so late in the day, but definitely go check out his site. You'll be glad you did.

Also, since I don't know when I'm going to get back in to make another news post, Saturday will feature a guest comic from Rob laughter over at Coffee Brain.

And sometime late Sunday night, since I'm now realizing that I didn't upload it before I left, will be a guest strip from White Ninja Comics. It's certainly a unique style, but I think if you give it a chance, many of you will get a kick out of it.

I'm having a blast at ConnectiCon. I drove down Thursday afternoon, and ended up spending the night playing video games and watching movies with Brian Carroll and friends from BriWorld and Instant Classic. It was awesome.

The first day of the convention was great.... I was practically drawing all day long, and when I wasn't drawing, and I was joking around and talking with people.

I got back to the hotel about an hour ago, and I'm going to rest for a bit before I head back to the convention for a big Halo tournament.

I know you're jealous.

I'll tell you all about it when I get back.

Content at last!

I have been redeemed. Two of my reviewers, Athena and QuadBoy have stepped forward during this time, and provided us with not one or two, but NINE new reviews. So while Absath is away at ConnectiCon, we have these reviews for you to enjoy. I wasn't able to write any myself, I'm fairly busy with CADMedia, so I'm happy to have this. We have Movie reviews on...

Legally Blonde 2: Red White & Blonde
The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Pirates of the Caribbean
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (My Five Word Review: Great movie, justifies a Terminator 4.)
28 Days Later (My Five Word Review: Best horror movie in ages.)
The Hulk (My Five Word Review: Good movie, X2 was better.)

And these movies are not currently in theaters, but you may find the reviews entertaining nonetheless...

Dumb & Dumberer
Hollywood Homicide

And this one, well I'm warning you. The content of this review is quite adult in nature, and one particular reference may be psychologically dangerous, so read at your own risk. The review of From Justin To Kelly is on the Reviews page.

Now as for CADMedia... The site is being developed right now by our resident webmonkeys Rastin and Stocad, and we look to launch before the end of the summer. The staff has been completely selected, and we actually have legal agreements now. This is turning into quite the professional endeavour we have. I'm really excited about what we'll be doing in the future for the site.

To conclude, Enjoy the reviews, and look forward to CADMedia.

Server Problems

Saturday, July 19, 2003 | 11:23 PM | by Rastin

We are back up and running. In case you didn't notice, we have had some server problems over the last day. Hopefully they are all fixed now. The reason we were having problems was that the log files were so large(2GB) they were causing apache to break. This was caused by the tremendous amount of traffic we here at Ctrl Alt Del generate. It is kind of funny that this happend when Absath is at Connecticon telling everybody to "go visit my site".

In other news Stocad and I are slowly making progress on the CADMedia site. It should be really cool when we finish it up, but that may take a little while due to the amount of other things we have to do.

I'm Back!

Well, I'm back from the convention. I had a blast. I'll tell you all about it in tomorrow's new post.

In the meantime, head over to White Ninja Comics. They did today's guest strip. It's a tad unorthodox, but I think a lot of you will find it funny.

Also head on over to Coffee Brain. They did yesterday's guest strip.

Check in tomorrow for a full account of the convention.

By the way...
