So the City of Heroes beta test ends this week. Then there will be a short hiatus, and then the game, after years of development, finally launches publicly next week.

I've been getting a lot of emails about City of Heroes since I've started talking about it here, and it led to an extensive write-up in hopes of answering some of your questions. It doesn't cover all aspects of the game, but I do believe it touches on those I feel most worth mentioning.

A lot of you are interested in which server I'm going to be playing on. I promise you, the instant I know, I will post it here. I will tell you by Sunday morning the latest.

Also, the book is coming along nicely. I know a lot of you are chomping at the bit in anticipation, and trust me, nobody is more excited about it than me. The instant I feel comfortable taking pre-orders, it will happen.

Also, don't forget about CAD Radio. As proof that the CAD community is ever-growing, and ever a cool place to be a part of, there is now an Official CAD Radio station. Run by CAD fans, for CAD fans. They play mostly different types of rock, and there are some great DJ's to entertain you as well. It's some fun stuff, so I suggest checking it out if you find yourself itching for some music.

So how do you connect? I'm glad you asked. The easiest way to connect at the moment is via Winamp. You should also grab this plugin, as it will greatly improve the digital quality of the broadcast. Once all that is set up, just click on the link below:

Click here to play CAD Radio!

Now, currently they are running on limited server capacity, meaning only a certain number of people can connect at a time. So you may not be able to connect if the server is full, but keep trying.

If you are interested in helping out with CAD Radio, or just hanging out in the IRC channel during broadcast and making requests or talking with other fans, connect to a random XNet server on IRC and /join #cadradio.

Or if you have mIRC, click here!

And don't forget to check by the normal CAD IRC Chat, #ctrlaltdel or here!

Linux CAD Radio

A reader, Mick Walker, wrote in to inform me that Linux users might have trouble accessing CAD Radio with the above methods, and offers a solution:

Just to let you know, that some of your Linux readers may have trouble listening to the online radio stream.
I dont know if you wish to inform them on the website, but here is a simple work around.

1. Download mplayer (binary or source) from http://www.mplayerhq.hu
2. Install it.
3. From a terminal or the command line simply run

$ mplayer http://1plonewolf.qc1.net:8010/

Thanks Mick!
