Books, conventions and patches

Ok first up, the books. Two issues.

Right now I am in the middle of the proofing process. This is the time when I send them the files, they send it back to me in semi-book form, I review it for errors, send it back to them, they fix the errors and send it back to me, and so on and so forth until I am satisfied that the book is ready for print.

You'll notice that on the ordering page it is very clear that these books were a pre-order item. This means that you order them, and receive them at a later date. So a certain number of you can stop emailing ZeStuff asking why you have not received your books yet.

Furthermore, you will notice a shippin date of "around July 15th". That does not mean the books are shipping on July 15th. In fact, I can tell you right now with certainty that they will not be. I am not going to send a book to print full of typos and errors. I do expect the book to ship before the end of the month, but at this point I am not prepared to make you any promises. Just relax. The books will ship soon, and you will receive the book you ordered.

On that note, due to a glitch in the inventory tracking system that was not caught until recently, it appears we have oversold the Limited Edition Hardcovers. This means we sold more than the 500 we had planned to produce. Faced with the decision to cancel a whole bunch of orders, I have instead chosen to up the print run for the Limited Edition Hardcovers to 600. It's just easier for everyone this way.

It's raining here today. I love the rain.

Next weekend I will be in Hartford, Connecticut for ConnectiCon. We'll have some shirts, some posters, maybe a copy or two of the first print run of Volume One (if you get there first thing on Friday) and of course, my awesomeness.

I'll be in the dealer's room most of the weekend, as well as doing some Q&A panels, so come prepared to ask me stuff.

I'm also being auctioned off for a good cause, the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. Basically you can bid on me, and the winner gets to have dinner with me. The auction takes place from 4-5pm on Saturday, and I believe the dinner is on Sunday.

Also on Saturday, the Webcomic challenge takes place, and I have been charged with assembling ateam. I can create a team of seven people (six plus me), so I will be doing that this weekend. I will make a post below with details on that.

ConnectiCon is going to be a huge blast this year, so I really suggest you be in attendance.

EA/Dice have informed some certain people that they may expect a patch this afternoon, which should address the inherent lag issues introduced with the last patch. I'm not sure if this is a server-side only patch yet, but I'll keep you informed as I find out.

Lag or no, all of the CAD/8BT fans are having an absolute blast playing on our servers. If you want to help support the BF2 servers, sign up on the forums, go to your User CP and sign up under the 'Paid Subscriptions' menu. This helps support our CAD/8BT servers, and also gives you access to the private BF2 forum where we all discuss strategies and tactics and plan games on the private servers just for us.

Ok, here is the deal. ConnectiCon hosts the Webcomic Challenge where webcomic authors and their fans compete against eachother for prestige, power, and women*.

Ctrl+Alt+Del won last year and we want to win again. I'm going to assemble a team of six other fans to represent CAD in the challenge.

You must already be attending ConnectiCon on Saturday to apply. I don't care if you're the world's greatest Texas Hold'em player, I'm not flying you out, housing you or anything.

You must be able to attend the scheduled events you agree to participate in. Also, we need at least one representative from our team in each event, so I will be choosing people who can participate in multiple events.

Here is the schedule of events taking place on Saturday, July 16th 2005, at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford:

12AM-???(will run as long as needed): Texas Hold 'em Tournament (Classic Card Game; Poker)

12AM-6PM: Digital Photo Scavenger Hunt (use a digital camera to take pictures of items on the given list)

10AM-4PM: Monopoly (Classic Board Game)

12PM-4PM: 4-Man Halo 2 Team Tournament (Shooter-Style Video Game)

4PM-5PM: Web Comic Artist/Writer Auction (Con attendees bid on their favorite web-comic to have dinner with- Proceeds benefit the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund charity- Web Comic with the top $$ brought in wins big points for the challenge!)

8PM-11:59PM: Munchkin Blender to Level 20 (Funny RPG-style Card Game)

8PM-11:59PM: Super Smash Brothers Melee (Fighter-Style Video Game)

8PM-11:59PM: Dance Dance Revolution (Rythm Dance Video Game)

Only I can participate in the auction, so I've got that covered. So now I need the best of the best in the other categories! Think you've got what it takes?

Then email me and tell me why I should pick you for the Ctrl+Alt+Del Webcomic Challenge Team!

It's just easier for everyone this way.

Just because we are printing more than originally planned, does not mean they are available to buy. Please stop emailing us asking to purchase them.

BF2 Patch not ready

Friday, July 8, 2005 | 09:47 PM | by
The patch was tested today and deemed not ready for release.

Have to wait a little bit longer, I guess.

You've got to be fucking kidding me

Saturday, July 9, 2005 | 12:00 AM | by
EA/Dice have instructed all of the server rental agencies to rollback their servers to the pre-1.01 install.

This means that the only way to remove the 1.01 patch and play on any of the servers is to reinstall Battlefield 2.

Ugh.
