Think tank

It would seem my threat of violence has worked, and Toby will be coming up from New York tonight. This weekend I shall finally partake of Bioshock.

To say I'm looking forward to it would be an understatement. It has been a magnificent trial of willpower to refrain from opening and playing it during the past month. That I left it perched atop the entertainment center in all of its collector's edition big-box glory helped not at all. Had I been a wiser man, I would have tucked it away in drawer until the time came. Out of sight, out of mind, as they say.

I have little doubt the game will be worth the wait. And this weekend we will binge ourselves on it, from start to finish by Sunday is our goal. I've heard all the reviews, about how Bioshock is revolutionary, a testament to the genre, etc etc etc. However I don't think any of that hype could equal what sheer anticipation over the last weeks has built in me. It will be interesting to see if I've managed to expect more than the game can deliver. Though having played the demo, I doubt it.

I shall return on Monday, hopefully with one more notch on my belt.

Bioshock completed

Mission accomplished. We have beaten the game, and it can now go on the shelf, a conquered trophy.

Sometime late last night we started experiencing some really obnoxious framerate issues, about halfway through the game. A bit of research revealed the culprit to be the patch for the game. We removed the patch, chose not to re-download it, and all was well from there.

All in all, an excellent game. Not quite as "scary" as we were expecting it might be, but the atmosphere was amazing.
